Rear main bearing cap question...SBC
Need some expert advice here guys.
I replaced my rear main seal on my 79 Chev SBC 305 . After getting the seal in and clocked.. the instructions said to put a small amount of sealant on the edge of the flat machined part of of the block where the bearing cap tightens down. I assume it keeps oil from migratin to toward the rear.
Technically there would be sealant under the bearing cap on the outer edge as you torque it down...
My question is ... would that small amount change the contact of the bearing?? , or would it squish out and be negligable after I torque the bolts down?

I guess I'm sweatin the small stuff, but curious what you do?

Just use a small amount. It will not change any bearing contact as most of it squeezes out the side of the cap. The amount that is left just seals the minor ridges and valleys left by the factory broach.
