rear side window molding removal?

does anyone know how i could remove the chrome around my rear windows on my 82 grand prix? when i first got the car it was just gona be a quik body work job and drive as is, but it turned into a big project. my DA sander marked up the chrome pretty bad, i want to replace it with a new peice from the wreckers or paint it black like some of the monte carlos.

im guessing if worse comes to worse, use a pry tool

My guess (and it's just a guess) that there are small square plastic clips that slide over a headed rivet / stud. Try taking a putty knife and slowly pry at the outer edge of the moulding. It should pop off if that is the way it is fastened on. I know GM uses that type of clip quite a bit.

i just tried removing it and it snaped and also bent the sheet metal of the body around the molding all over...damm..

the bottom came off but the rest wont. if its not to much work i might just replace the 2 side windows, does anyone know how to remove them?
