I was planning on building a truck style susp under my 51 Dodge, but I've been looking at different builds and the trianglulated 4 link kinda caught my eye. I have a new set of coil overs already, and what you can buy the 4 link kit for, you couldn't buy the materials for the trk susp. I see a lot of them with bags, anybody got a set up with coil overs? I got busy at my 2nd job so not getting much done on the dodge so that leaves me more time to think. I was just thinking no panhard bar and more room for exhaust. Also, no front cross member to deal with. Anyone have any pros and cons? I'm using a 70 Camaro 8.5 10 bolt.
It will set-up just the same as the ones you've looked at with airbags, basically you are using the coil-over shock assembly right at the same place the bags would be.
Yeah, the typical coil-over brackets mount them behind the axle, in order to get their length squeezed into the available space and ride height....I meant they are basically doing the same job the bags are doing....holding up the vehicle.
You can also put the coil-overs in front of the axle if you have space availability problems, just the same as they would be mounted behind the axle, alters effective spring/shock rate a tad is all.
Lakeroaderster, that is the way I was planning to do mine. I got tons of room, and the frame on this old dodge is already boxed. Think that is the way I'll go. I'd like to get the rear end in, lines, exh, and anything else before I set the body on. I've been working so much that time is what I need. Also money would help also. Thanks for the pics and replies.
