which rearend fits 1950 chevy truck

Customer is bringing a 1950 chevy 1/2 ton p/u I see chassis engineering lists a rear suspension kit, but recommends no specific rearend. What fits? Need to stick with 5 lug chevy bolt pattern 4 3/4".

55-65 will work just fine. You may have to relocate the spring perches on the housing to get the correct fit with the CE frame and springs as well as to get the proper pinion angle. If you want to go wider, mid 80s Monte Carlos, Camaros, or Firebirds would work fine.

The first gen Camaro and '68 to '79 Nova rear ends are 60 inches wide. I have seen several of these rear ends installed in the '40s and '50s trucks. The 8.2 10 bolt from these cars is very cheap and there are many after market parts for them. The 8.5 from the '72and later Nova is stronger and also has many after market parts.

wouldn't an S10 4x4 rear end work? there 60" wide and probably a bit easier to find than early Camaro/Nova rear ends... 8.5 rears came standard on most V6 models '99 up so it wouldn't be that hard to find 1

The 8.5 from a ZR2 would be fine, but I wouldn't use the 7.5 10 bolt. The S truck rear ends have smaller axle tubes. They are about 2 5/8 instead of the normal 3 inches. The S truck 8.5 will have 30 spline axles.

Any mid '70s Camaro or Firebird will work just fine. Here's my '53 before I sold it. It had a 78 Firebird 10 bolt posi unit I picked up at a swap meet for a hundred bucks. Also had stock '69 Camaro rally wheels and trim rings.
