rearend ID

I have a Camera rearend in my 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline project but I do not know the year nor the ratio. The housing does not have a metal id tag. How can I learn what I have?

bottom of the diff housing under the diff cover have two little fangs at 5 and 7 o clock positions, or are they square corner shaped ?

if small fangs then its a 7.5 or 7.625

if square 90 degree then its a 8.5

the F body 8.5 were originally leaf, and were through 1981

and the smaller F body rears were originally coil with panhard and torque arm from tranny tail along driveshaft, 1982 up

also if it has a 9 bolt diff cover then its a borg warner 1988 and similar years F body, 3.27 most common ration in these and most were LSD equipped

do a google pics search for GM 8.5, 7.5 and borg warner 9 bolt

i assume you mean camaro anyways...

You mean a Camaro rear end? There is a number stramped into the right axle tube on the front side that will identify the rear end. It might be hard to find. It might be covered with dirt or rust, but it should be there.
