rebuild a muncie trans
Is it likely that I could rebuild my muncie 4sp.? I have average motor & chassis building skills & can't afford to pay to have it done.
P.S. the trans. is still working, but jumps out of 4th gear. Thanks |

Sounds like your synchros and/bearings are worn. Working on the Muncies isn't that hard. I used the GM manual which had the exploded diagrams. The only time I had a problem was with the 100 or so (loose) needle bearings that are between the input shaft and the output shaft. Patience my son!

This is a great site for information and parts on the Muncie.
http://www.gearzone.net/kit.htm The rebuild video is a great asset for the first timer, I suggest you get it. Vince Last edited by 302/Z28; 10-05-2003 at 07:39 PM. |

My Muncie ('68 model) needed a special wrench to remove the nut on the input shaft in front of the front bearing. I used vise-grips & it worked out OK. The snap rings worked better with a snap ring tool from Sears.
