rebuild rear end in garage?

I have a 79 camaro that has an outer bearing going and I was wondering if I could (or should) rebuild the whole rear while its parked this winter. Is this a doable job for a first timer? Thanks

Outer bearing as in axle or carrier bearing? Bearings are fairly easy and straight forward to replace. If you do not have the pullers and a press you will have to have the carrier bearings pressed off and new ones pressed on. Same for the rear pinion bearing.
