Rebuilding an 8" Ford RE

My search didn't come up with anything so, how hard is it for a novice RE builder to redo a Ford 8"? I plan to pull the 3rd member, replace the 3:00 gears with 3.73, using an installation kit and hopefully installing an affordable posi, like an Auburn cone? Instructions come with the kit? Any hints or heads up B4 I start?

Just moving this up the list as I can't believe no one here has redone a Ford 3rd member! 9" should be the same drill as an 8".

Just so you get some sort of reply, I thought about doing mine seeing as how I do everything else on my car, but backed out at the last minute and had a friend that is a mech. do it. after that I think I could have done just as well. I backed out because I couldnt get any good info about the process. if I had it to do again I would do it. it seems pretty simple. about the hardest part was getting the pumpkin out. it was because the stock copper crush washers wee still on it and was holding tight. so watch out for those. once they were off it fell out real nice. let me know if you have any specific ?'s about anything and I will try to help. I did the same swap 3.00 - 3.73 only I put in a powertrax lockright locker. good luck

It is easy to do. The hardest part is setting up new gears if you put them in. You have to get the gears to mesh correctly.

The ring bolts will be hard to break loose at first.
