Post Rebuilding my first Q-jet carb and need step by step.

I'm rebuilding a Quadrajet #17059230. The kit costs around $15. I got Doug Roe's book and started to read it. If this is the "Bible of Quadrajets," now I know why the Qjet is so misunderstood and maligned. The book is so disjointed and a tough read. Lots of info and variations, but not a real step by step for the beginner, despite his claim that a 13 year old girl can read it and then rebuild a carb in 8 hrs. Is there a website or book out there that is a REAL step by step? Carburator Rebuild for Dummies would be perfect. LOL

Somebody on this board will have a good reference for you. But I noticed you're from Vegas , can you drop a quarter in a slot machine for me and see if I win? I love Las Vegas!

I think the first time I built a Q-Jet, I just bought the kit, and CAREFULLY disassembled it into three sections. The top plate, the main body and the baseplate, rebuild each section as a sub-assembly. Pay close attention to the float area, that's where everything is at in a Q-Jet, sometimes getting started on these things is just trial and error. Invariably, until you've gotten really familiar with a Q-Jet, or any other carb, you end up with a check ball laying out that you should have put in, and you have to take it apart again----I still do this sometimes.
BE NOT AFRAID, FOR WE ARE WITH THEE, BUY THE KIT AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

ps KEEP IT CLEAN

That's too funny. This reminded me of a friend back in the islands. I gave him money to buy a pig from his neighbor for an upcoming Luau I was having. Well for a couple of dollars more he got a deal for buying two pigs. He figured he'd get the other one for the hell of it and being that he lived in the country he kept both pigs. Just days before my Luau, he called and said he had good and bad news. The bad news was that my pig was killed by a stray dog. But the good news was that his pig was okay and that he'd sell it to me for a couple of dollar more for the Luau.

Well it wasn't as bad as I thought after all, but I'm glad I had the Chilton and Motor manuals for help. I did have to put the power piston through the gasket a couple of times...forgot to replace the float cover. Reassembled it again, then realized I forgot to put the spring back in. DOH! I didn't find the plate with the cork gasket inside though. Not much info on chokes in the books I have, but I found the Haynes Rochester carb manual today, and looks like its more involved. We'll see. Doug Roe advises not to get into as its too complicated.

BTW Bstmech, you didn't win. I know...its shocking. You owe me a quarter. You can't LIVE in Vegas AND gamble, or you have to rebuild carbs yourself. Oops.

I too am rebuilding my first Q-jet. I have been searching for info on carb spacers. What size, what manufacturer, and benefits. Can someone steer me in the right direction. Thanks
