The 280H cam will not work with a "stock" distributor. Recurving modification is required. (limit the mech advance curve travel to allow increased idle timing)
It wants 20-24deg initial-base at idle, 34-36deg at max mech advance and 10-12deg of vacuum advance. The 280H cam does not work with a stock low stall torque converter.
3000 stall minimum stall 3500 stall if you like to win races.
check the balancer/timing tab for true TDC using a piston stop. balancer rings slip and aftermarket timing tabs are always out to lunch. Correct as nesessary.
Check proper hyd lifter/rocker arm plunger preload. excessive preload/tight rocker adjustment creates a goofy idle.
use a 4.5" rated power valve/power piston step up spring in the carb.
Edelbrock/Carter carb max 5.5psi fuel pressure at idle.
PCV must be hooked up and functional.
