Recommendations for budget paint job?

Say you wanted to paint a car that's not worth much or you just wanted to spruce it up to sell. What would the best way to do this?

1. Sand it down and simply shoot a BC/CC over the original paint.

2. Or cheap single stage acrylic enamel paint job?

3. Spot repairs and a CC over the entire car?

Maaco.... They'll do the whole job for the cost of just the paint if you do it yourself...

I have to say MAACO is about the cheapest. However, I did my friends mustang for a lot less. We went to the paint store and bought some miss mixed paint that was a really close match to what was already on the car. It was a one stage paint with a little metal flake in it. We lightly sanded the car and sprayed a couple of coats over the existing paint. Looked pretty good. Total costs was $20.

I used to teach the neighbor hood kids how to work on cars and do paint work. I used to buy old beaters and let the kids learn on them. I would get ,old stock, body fillers for free from paint supply shops and mis mixed paint for $15-35.00 per gallon. Also for learning ,the kids would shoot synthetic enamel from TSC (tractor supply co) at that time it was $10.00 per gallon on sale. I always had stocked, black, Ford blue, white, Massey Ferguson red, and a tan. This stuff shoots very easily and if you add hardner it makes some very nice paint jobs for cheap.

I made a deal with the Maaco guys....I could do all the prep work and tape the car up. Off the trailer and inside- they tape up the windshield and drivers door and wipe it down and spray. That way I don't get their crappy tape job and they cut me a price break over the regular paint job since I did most of the work!
Ask them to work with you....!!!!
I get a discount on paints but can't beat their price on a job alone. The paint I buy is more than the whole price they quote me and I don't have to deal with the sticky dad-gummed acrylic enamel mess! I do A/E and BB/CC

Not to" but" in on this, but, Is it true that maaco uses alkyd based paints, being soo cheap and fading after 1-2yrs.?

I put my money on the Dupli-Color. Where else could you get a quality paint job out of a rattle can? That Mustang has professional written all over it

fine go go macco and pay someone else to work on your car..... next week you can let someone change your oil.....by the end of the year you can forget where your hood latch is as well and just let someone else enjoy working on your hotrod. my paint may be dirt poor but i did all my own work and the resulst look good.
