recommendations on contour gauges?
Looking for maybe a 12" one for now, probably get more later. I see some at Home Depot but would like to get feedback first. Any suggestions?

so no one uses these? Can only find 6". I'll keep looking and get a 6" for now.

Here is mine, I believe I got it from Eastwood but it was about 10 years ago.

Hmm, I went looking for it an it is only available from UK sites. Eastwood does have a pretty cool one.
I think my Ace hardware has one similar as I remember. Brian |
By the way, all the new ones I see at Eastwood and all over have a ruler across them, a black ruler. Mine doesn't have one, the other side looks just like the side you see, hmmm.
You can also search under "profile gauge" that is actually what I have always called it. Brian |
5 more points to you. I'll win some points one day, you watch! :) I'll try Ace tomorrow. Thanks.

A quick rip to the hobby shop. Take about 10min to make. The frame is Bass wood. The strips are Balsa. One end is of the balsa strips is cut to a point. If you got kids, let them make it. Good project for them.

Henry, my Ace had a Vitrex but a different model than the one I have, I don't think it's as good, seemed a little sloppy, for $18.95. I didn't get the model number.

Thanks for that guys. Love the homemade one. Really cool!
So I went to homedepot, Harbor freight, Lowes, Ace, Osh, and they all had 6" ones. Then I went home and looked on line and found one that looked like your red 10". So then the results yielded about 10 of the best deals on line and I noticed Home Depot had them on line so I clicked on it, chose the closest store, and there was the option of picking it up in the store. So last night I ordered it and this morning I woke up and went to pick it up, which tells me they stock it in the back but not on display. So if anyone is looking for one they are only $10 at home depot, which is a cool deal. Looks just like yours, Martin. I was under the impression you tighten these things up but it's ok. I'll just make quick templates out of thin cardboard. Thanks for the help! |
Cool, they do come in handy.
