Hi,
Has anyone used recycled leather for there interior? I'm trying to decide what material to use on my 1955 gmc truck. I'm on a budget and can't afford the real thing are ultra leather.

Recycled leather is wildly popular right now. They come out with a new sample book of it almost every week. There is every finish imaginable, and they all look like real leather. Recycled leather, also called re-cast leather, has a 100% polyurethane face like Ultraleather, and the backing is made of recycled leather. Basically it's Ultraleather that feels more like an actual piece of leather. It runs retail for $35 to $45 a running yard (36" by 54"), which makes it $2.59 to $3.33 a square foot, which is not that much cheaper than real leather. There are also tons of 100% polyurethane products out there that do not have the recycled leather backing. Most of those have a knit rayon backing, and can be found for less than the recycled leather. The good news for you is that a pickup truck takes far less yardage than the average car with a back seat.

These are just some of the many different sample books I have.

recycled leather

Thanks Dan
I live in Louisiana and the price I was quoted for ultra leather was 65-78 dollars a yard. I don't mind paying 35-40 a yard if its going to last a long time. There are so many different brands, not sure what to use? I like the way ultra leather feels it was soft, and I have a sample of whisper not as soft but a thicker material. So confusing.

Thanks

The Recycled leather feels and looks more like leather to me, and it is very soft and easy to use. These seats are done with Ultraleather:

That's very nice. You do very good work.

How much Material would it take to do a 1955 gmc truck 2nd series 2 bucket seats door panels and kick panel and a console just the sides.

That depends on how you want to do it. Big pieces eat up yardage. If you use two or three different colors and have smaller parts because of that, it would be different than all one color. All one color: 1 1/2 to 2 yards for each bucket seat, one yard for each door panel, 1/2 yard for the kick panels , 3/4 yard for the console sides and about 1 1/2 to two yards if you do the headliner. 9 or 10 yards will do it easily.
