Refinishing car while continuing to drive it - primer ok?

I can't leave my car in the garage while I sand and prep it for painting. I need it for getting to work. I'd like to sand and primer section at a time each weekend. Then when the whole vehicle is prepped, I'll take a few days to dedicate to final sanding and painting.

Any problems with driving with primer on it? Other than all the folks pointing and laughing.

What needs to be completed at a minimum before putting on the road each time: epoxy primer? primer? Sealer?

Epoxy primer should be your first layer on bare metal. It should let you be good to go while you drive it as well. I'm hesitant to suggest any other primer while you drive it.

You can spot prime and repair with any 2K catalyzed urethane primer. once you are satisfied with the repair it is advisable to top coat with a quality epoxy primer for long tern exposure to the elements. I would add that in my experience PPG epoxy primer is not a quality epoxy primer.

My plans are to use SPI's Epoxy Primer. I've read good things about the SPI line.
