reliability of sbc w/blower for cross country trips
Hey Folks...
Lets have some input on Chevy small blocks with blowers. I'm in the "figuring out" stage of a new project and looking for some opinions. The car I am going to build will be a driver, hopefully running around the country to different shows and events. I have always wanted to car with a blower... but have never gotten that far yet. SOoooooo... since I will be spending a lot of time/effort on this project, I'm considering one again. What kind of experience has anyone had? My main concerns are reliability... is there a problem with heat/premature wear/etc. Would having a blower on a car making long trips (figure driving 12-14 hours a day for several days) be detrimental on an supercharged engine. Lets get some discussion going! |
Having never owned or driven a car with a blower on it, the only thing I can think of is it getting dirty real quick. Carb cleaner and a filter-cap may end up being your best friends on a trip like that.
On a side note, I wonder if a blower could force a bug through a filter, fry him instantly in the chamber and shoot him out the tailpipe? Nothin' quite like charred bug on the windshield of the guy behind you. Now that has to blow. Good Luck MoocH |
I have a 177 on my sbc (avatar) and been going to shows all year (weather permitting) about 2000 miles total and no problems so far. When I drive that many hours in a day I'm in the big truck (semi). Norm.
