remove leaves? 58 chevy with cal-tracs
I have a 58 chevy PU with cal-tracs. As far as I know its stock suspension in the rear with 9 leaves. With the Cal-tracs its way too stiff. My question is what leaves and how many to remove for a starting point?
I have herd people say you want to start with the 2 shortest leaves and go from there others say middle leaves. So anyone with some first hand knowledge would be appreciated if they would chime in.
The truck is a hotrod that will never haul anything over a few hundred pounds in the back. Because of the wheel tubs I'm not really looking to lower it but would like the rear end softer.
Start with the smallest ones first. Removing leaves with lower your ride height slightly. Try pulling the smallest one out and i'll bet it will be perfect. You'd be amazed what a difference one can make.
I had the same in a 59 GMC. Mine had 10 leaves. I ended up with 5. Took out every other one. Dropped it down a foot.
I went from 5 leafs to 2 on my S-10, like you I never haul any weight other than a 'glass bedcover. BTW, the Cal-Tracs should not affect the ride feel, if they do, you have too much preload...
i remove the 2 short leaves on my 58 and flipped the axle on top of the springs
removing the 2 short springs will only remove the overload springs and may not drop it at all
flipping the axle will require a c-notch or you will hit the frame 90% of the time
i have a mustII on front
