Removing a 2.8/700r4, Install V-8 with 700r4
Transmission question?I have been reading posts about switching fro m tpi/tbi to a carb.Thay say that the converter will not lock up.I am removing a 2.8/700r4 and replacing it with a 305 out of an 84 bonneville.I have a carb, not electric carb, and vacume advance distributor.I also have a 700r4 out of an 86 firebird.I was not going to remove my ecm,so is my tranny going to "lock up" like it is supposed to.All this is going in my 87 firebird.Any comments would be welcome. Thanks,John

Best to ask about your converter in the Transmission forum.

no the trans will not lock up the converter correctly. You are removing all the inputs for the computer..

You are removing the TPS , electronic distributor. These provide information to the computer for the car.

Do you have an electronic speed-O or a cable driven speed-O?

700r4 problem.
Depending On Your Skill Level With Electrical Issues, You Can Go To Summit Racing And Get The Tci Standalone Wiring Harness For The Lock Up Or You Can Go To Your Local Library And Find The Wiring Diagram For Your Car And Find The Circuit To Hook Into. They Usually Work On A Vacuum Switch For The Tranny To Lock And Unlock The Converter. As Well As Being Tied Into The Brakelight Switch.
