They did a piece on this on last week's "Trucks!" (or maybe it was Hot Rod - they were reclaiming a totaled late model pickup - body damage, rest of truck was in great shape - and took off some trim instead of replacing it $$$) TV show. Modern trim is glued on, no mechanical fasteners. They peeled the trim off with the help of a plastic Bondo spreader. Then they 'polished' off the residual glue using a rubber 'eraser' wheel in an electric drill. Came out perfect w/ no paint damage.
