removing chrome

I did a search on removing chrome but didn't satisfy myself. I have a grill from my 48 chevy p/u that the chrome has peeled on in places. As I don't have the money to have it rechromed I was wondering what is the easiest way to remove the remaining chrome. Thanks for your help

There is no way to easily remove the remaining chrome, short of taking it to a plater and having it stripped in his tanks.

I usually peel off the loose atuff. Then sandblast the part. Recoat it with a couple of heavy coats of two-part primer. Then work out the rough spots with fillers and more primer-surfacer.

Thanks for the input. As our sandblaster isn't of high quality or pressure....I went at it with sandpaper mounted on an angle grinder. It quickly took off the loose and bubbled stuff and smoothed back till I got to good chrome. All in all it seemed to work pretty well. I'm going to sandblast it took finish off the front as well as the back, prime it and smooth it out with filler. Thanks again.
