Removing emergency brake parts

I know disabling the emergency brake is not a good idea. But in my case it is not hooked up anyway. I have plans to do the installation this winter. In the meantime, I have been living with these loose cables coming out of the rear backing plates and the rattling is driving me nuts. So I want to remove the cables. If I do, should I also remove the lever inside the brake assembly or can it stay in there? I don't want to have loose parts flying around in there you know. Something bad might happen. Thanks for your advice.

On dirt track cars ... I have cut the cables right at the backing plate ... without problems but I encourage you to go ahead and fix the cables correctly and hook everything up ... for safety sakes ...
