I have never done this but I have heard it is very tricky. They cut off a lil bit at a time and then weld that area or else the roof skin may warp and lose its shape.

he hit it on the head.....

I cut as close as i could with a sawzall, then used my angle grinder to take 4-5 inches at a time down as close as i wanted, skipped a few or five inches, all around the roof line.. migged in what i'd ground, then went back and ground what i'd left behind. then migged that up. weld it all up, skip around as not to cause warpage with the welding heat. then use a flapper disk to smooth it out. go back and weld whatever you grind through... weld grind weld grind till you get that like you want....
then if your not to proud, throw some evercoat on it and get that right.... filler sand filler sand filler sand til you get that like you want....... then primer and paint that bad boy....

drip rail removal

i removed the drip rails on my 68 mustang gt fastback. i used brake lines , cleaned out the drip channels, ground using cut off tool, clamped lines down into channel, weld top of lines to roof, then cut underside of drip rail off, removed drip rail, weld bottom side, did a lot of wire brushing and grinding, filled in with napa fiber strand, turned out great. sorry don't have pictures. but by using the existing drip rails as a guide, it did a great job, hope this info helps you.
