Removing script and chrome scoop on a '65 Mustang

Hi all!
I am going to paint my own car. I have a 65 stang and it is a daily driver. I live out on a dirt road so I am not wanting a show quality paint job as it will be getting a lot of chips anyway. My question is how do you remove the MUSTANG letters and the chrome scoop on the side? I will also want to fill those holes. I have read all the threads on hole filling and see that welding is the way to go. Is there inexpensive welder out there? I will only use it to fill these dang holes. I was thinking about using the steel rivits to start with then tacking them with the welder. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The emblems simply push into "barrel clips" so all you need to do is gently pry them out with a thin screw driver. The scoop is bolted in and you will need to remove the rear seat and quarter trim to get to the nuts on the backside.

You could recess the holes down a little with a center punch and fill them with a reinforced filler like Everglass by Evercoat.
Though welding is much better.

My advice, just leave them.

Brian

the reason I'm removing

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply! The reason I'm removing the Script and scoop as I'm doing a resto mod to a GT. The GTs did not have the scoop and the Mustang script was down in the GT stripe. I've looked into buying a true GT and you can't belive how much they are going for.
Thanks again,
Walt
