Removing Steering Column on a 56 ford p/u

Would like to know if you can separate the steering column, without unbolting it from the frame. This a 56 ford pickup. I'm want to raise the cab off the frame, without removing the entire steering column if possible. Thanks for the help.

Remove the box, it isn't that difficult. The column can't be removed because the worm gear is on the bottom of the shaft. So removing the column is literally splitting the box in half. Just simply do everything you would to remove the column inside the cab and then remove the drag link from the pitman arm and the three bolts (as I remember there are three) holding the box to the frame that that is all there is to it. Now, if the engine and front sheetmetal is on the the truck this can be difficult to get the box out. I don't remember how it goes but you may need to remove an exhaust or something to get it out.
