Removing vent windows
I have a '48 Chevy 5 window coupe, and I want to remove the vent windows and have one piece of glass for the door windows. I found a kit from Nu-Relics that electrifies the windows while removing the vents, but they also say that there needs to be a modification to the door because the vent windows were offset 1/2". Has anybody performed this operation that can tell me what is involved? They have a suggestion on how to do it, but I'd like someone with first hand knowledge of the process that can explain it to me. Thanks.
1 pce windows
I've done my 47 Chevy coupe with one piece side windows. The problem is the vent windows angle toward the center of the car( in other words the front edge is narrower than the rear. I removed all the windows from the door and mocked up a front and rear guide for the window. Then by stretching a line from the two guides you can see the place where you have to add metal. I bent a piece 90 degrees long enough to cover the area needed. Weld this in and finish the metalwork. One thing to be sure of is to check that the window will move up and down in the guides without binding.
