Removing Windshield Trim

I understand my 55 Olds windshield trim can only be removed after the glass is out, is this true? Is this also true for the back window? Do I remove the glass by prying up the moulding on the inside? I was quoted a new windshield would cost me between $450 and $550, is this high-low-average? Thanks!

yes the trim is inserted in a slot in the rubber and can only be moved or removed with the glass and rubber out. To get the rubber out you must raise the rubber lip that is inside the car, gradually raising the lip and pushing out on the glass, it will eventually push out of the frame, use lots of dish soap to make the rubber slippery, the price for windshield is about right, they a'int cheap for old cars, and hard to find. If you are going to replace the rubber gasket, just take a razor knife and gut the interior side rubber strip off and lift the rest out of the frame.
