repainting a 72' chevy p/u

hey guys,

I'm repainting my grandfather's 72 chevy p/u at school (lincoln tech)... it was in decent shape to begin with but it had some dings and dents and a nasty spot in the hood and he wanted them gone. Since I'm in the collision dept. I figured why not. After about 2 weeks I finally got the bed what looks to be perfectly straight. for the other rookies out there.... when the pros here preach block sanding take it from me... IT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CRAP PAINT JOB AND A NICE ONE! Anyway the bed's in paint and clearcoat and we start the cab on monday. I have a couple of spots on each door where rust has become an issue and still deciding on the best approach for handling that. I just wanted to take a second out of the day and thank a few guys here who helped me A LOT with the helpful knowledge and posts they've left up here since I've been a part of this forum (Dec 06)... Randy (New Interiors), DBM, BarryK (I've actually had the opportunity to speak with him on the phone and he is FILLED with good info, thanks barry!), shine, and the list goes on. thank you very much for the good info you guys put out there. I'm leavin some pics of the progress down here since I have a project journal started on another truck....

the work starts here

Well fellas,

The truck is going to be repainted black. It's single stage now but I've decided to go with bc/cc... mostly for maintenance reasons should something down the road happen (surface scratches and such) I think it would be easier to repair the finish. I've learned a cubic boatload of info since starting on this project and I'd like to talk to someone here about starting a wiki thread about putting what I've learned out there for someone else to use. These pics are of the finished body work after my second week (i know thats long time you dont have to tell me) of body work and block sanding... making sure this thing is straight. (which it is). I'll list the materials I've used below.

Body Filler: Rage Gold Extreme
Evercoat Metal Glaze - FE416?
Refinish Material: Martin Senour 56-8800 Black, SPI Universal Clear w/ very slow activator, Finish 1 FP 410 Filler Primer

Various grits sandpaper longboard and DA from 80 grit to 3000 Trizact
