To repair tilt steering???

Well I've been searching locally for a while and finally found a steering column I can use for my 57 chev pickup with Volare IFS clip. I've been told that a late 70's van is the best to use because they are nice and short and don't have an ignition so I can keep my dash key. I've found a few but not with tilt. This one I found today has the rare tilt option. It actually tilts nicely, with good spring tension but what's wrong is there's no stop. You can tilt it up and down but if you let go it goes to the upper position. The tilt lever seems fine, just not latching inside. I'd like to try to fix it if possible and I'm wondering if it's possible and how hard. It's a basic column with no key, no cruise, just tilt.

Forgot to mention it's a column shift.

Thanks, Home Brew. Mine is older and simpler - no key, no steering lock and it's not loose. The tilt just won't latch. I found some other good information during a search here that's for my particular column but I still don't know what's involved to fix the tilt latch. I suspect some kind of stop is broken and I'm wondering if I'll need a part or something. Guess I won't know until I get it apart. I hate to pay good money for it just to find out it can't be fixed. He hasn't said how much he wants for it so if I get it cheap enough it'll be a good lesson.
