Repairing Transmission Tunnel --any advice?

Hi guys,

To fit my T56 into my 84 Jaguar XJ6, i had to cut some of the transmission tunnel out. I cut a bit extra, so that it'd be easier to install. Now I have hot air rising from under the car, and making it's way into the cabin. Is there a trick, or some kind of specialty rubber material used to patch these holes? I need a regular shifter boot still, but this would be the barrier between the underside of the car and the trans tunnel itself.

Any help would be appreciated!

Why not get a piece of 18-20 Gauge CRS (or Galvanized) and form it to fit your Tunnel (using the Tunnel as a form)? You could use some short Stainless hex head sheetmetal screws (or Rivets) to hold it down-it would be nicer to Weld it in, but no one will see it-first, make a pattern out of Construction Paper (with, of course, a hole for your Shifter), transfer it to your Metal, Cut, screw, done.
