Replace arm strong steering to power in your 51 to 54 Chevy car

I know now how to put power steering in to a 52 Chev car. After much resurch and calls I found out how to do it. You take a 1985 Chev astro van power steering box and revers the gears so that the out put shaft changes direction to match the same direction as the stock arm strong box. This power steering box can be put infront of the fire wall or infront of the motor on the frame and it will connect to the original steering arm and do the same as the original steering box did but it will be power now. There you go I hope this helps someone. Mike Bryan.

Clarify Please??

Could you explain further to a DUMMY!

Dou you mean to physically go inside the steering box and turn around some type of worm gear or something, or just by changing WHERE the box is mounted; the direction will be changed??????

I know that if you know anything about steering box insides, I should be able to figure out what you mean, but the only one I've ever seen the inside of is a 30 model and it had the steering shaft gear, and a worm gear on the output shaft [or something like that] and that was all]; no other gears.

NOTE: JUNK YARD SAYS 85-94 ASTRO VAN STEERING BOXES ARE INTERCHANGABLE; EXCEPT THERE WAS A 'SPORT BOX MADE FOR A FEW YEARS" WHICH PROBABLY JUST HAD A DIFFERENT RATIO.

Hi i sent my box to a fellow who rebuilds power steering boxes for a living he did the work for me so I dont know exactly what he did but from what I gatherd he reversed the gears. So maybe if you contact a rebuild place they can tell you. Or if you want I will give you the # of the place I got it done at and they will exsplane to you what they did.

Thumbs up Thanks for that reply

I will contact a rebuild shop, after I open mine up and look inside [got to look and see if I can figure it out myself first ], then I'll have a pro look at it,

That's the old budget thing again .

Thanks for confirming I had to go INSIDE.
