replace Chevy 3.1 v6 to 2.8 v6?

Can anyone tell me : I bought a new 2.8 v6 crate motor that was suppose to work in my s10. New in plastic cover from add in paper. I actually installed it in a Susuki Samurai jeep. I bolted an 88 s10 trans to it and made motor mounts to fit frame. I crawled under to bolt flywheel and torque converter together and holes didnt line up plus converter if pulled close to flywheel then it would come out of trans. pump. Also starter is on opposite side of s10. I think I have a new front wheel drive motor! So I ended up putting a 350 in the Samurai. Now I still have a new motor and I have a 93 Pontiac Transport van ( FWD) that has a bad 3.1 motor, can I install the 2.8 motor in the van to replace the 3.1?They are both all cast iron ( heads too) and they look exactly alike. I dont know much about these engines , but arent they the same family etc? Will it work since Im pretty sure this new engine is FWD like the 3.1 in the van? Please help!
