replace tranny or go with a gear vendors overdrive?

Guys,

With winter approaching, I'm beginning to think about what to do with the car in the off-season. I have been wanting to replace the tranny for a overdrive unit to help with cruising, but I recently have been looking at the gear vendors ad-on overdrive unit as an option. I have a 69 mustang with a toploader and wanted to know if anyone has any advice for me. The car has a worked 302 with nitrous that makes about 500 hp, but I only seldom race. If I go with a tranny, does anybody have any advice with regard to brand, 5 vs 6 speed, specific gear drive ratios for various gears, and whether or not I should go with a proshifted box. Thanks for any advice.

Mike

Check the installed length of the gear vendors unit as it does take up some space to install it..Saying that it is a good unit.

you may wish to look into a Tremec or a richmond gear unit and get the overdrive that way..I would stay away from a proshifted unit unless it is a drag only car as those can be a bit difficult for use in a road car but that is more a personal thing..In any case look at the torque rating of the trans unit before purchase in order to get one that has a chance of holding up..

Call Keisler.I have dealt with them several times.Pretty well thought out set up.I doubt a t56 or gear vendors will go in without floor mods.I would personally like to try one of the gv units someday.Splitting the gears sounds like lots of fun.
