Replacement for 6.70 X 15 Tire

I'm looking to replace the existing tires and wheels on my 54 210 chevy witch are 195/75R 14. the original tire was a 6.70 X 15, 4 or 6 ply. I'm told that a 205/75R 15 is a close match but I can order my rim in 6,7 or 8 inch width. I like the wider look but don't want to have rubbing problems. If anybodies been there before I would appreciate your advice

The 6.70-15 was replaced by the 7.75-15 back around 1965 (they called them the new "low-profile" tires).

Here's a chart that converts old sizes to new ones:
