Just doing some thinking... wondering if a 5.7 or 5.3 will bolt in place of a 4.3, or if the mounts are further forwards or backwards than the V8's are...
I have a car with a 4.3 in it currently... wondering if it would need special motor mounts fabricated or if it would just drop right in. I know the trans will work and ill need the V8 harness and such... but thats no biggie to me. Getting the engine to bolt down and sit right is what I am worried about...
If the car was available with the V-8 option then it is not issue.. I fit was not then you may have to fab something..Making motor mounts is not as big a deal as some would say it is..I know maybe not the answer you are looking for.
4.3 rwd has the stand offs on the cross member 2.25 inches farther back from the 5.7.
I pulled a 350 out of my 38 dodge to put in a 4.3 in, and had to move the mounts back 2 1\4 inch's. Of course in a couple of months I was moving them back. Years ago I pulled a Buick 3.8 out and replaced it with a 307 v8, and you will probably be looking at changing front springs as well
I have an 86 GMC pickup that had a 4.3 V6 from the factory and I removed and replaced it with a 350. Totally different kind of mounts in it just like my 79 Malibu that I took out the 200 V6 and replaced with a 350. Totally different also. Now , with that being said, without a picture of what the previous owner did to put a 4.3 in your car, it is hard to say. Getting a set of frame mounts from a donor car or truck shouldn't be a problem. I am referring to the clam shell type mounts used on Chevy / GMC truck mounts from 73 up to around 87 or so. As far as the motor mounts go, I would use the 78-up G-body type because the do not sit as high in the frame. More car friendly , is what I'm trying to say. Both type of frame mounts are identical but just easier to remove from a truck or you could just buy new.
The bellhousing will work between the GEN 3 5.3 and the GEN 1 350. The issue is the crank flanges between te e2 generations, hence the differnces in TC's and input shafts of the transmissions.
You can readily buy adapters for GEN 3 engine mounts.
