I have a 1986 firebird with modafied 350.I would like to put in my rebuilt th350 from my 83 truck. The th350 has a 9"tail shaft but I am unsure of the length diffrence of the th350 compaired to the 700r4.Will I need a shorter or longer drive shaft?and waht changes will I need to make to my cross member?I have yet to finde infomation on this perticular conversion and any infomation or advise would be greatly apprieciated. Thank you much <img src="graemlins/crash.gif" border="0" alt="[crash]" />

Hi, i have a 84 Z28, with a 350ci and TH350. Look in a jegs catalog, in the tranny section, you should find a piece for this conversion. It a bracket that utilizes your Crossmember...basically it bolts in on the tail shaft and hooks it to your car, its pretty simple, as far as the length, my shaft was fine. But i dont remember how long the tailshaft was on either tranny, i know the first Th 350 i got was to long, but other than that i dont know. That bracket is about 50$ i think, but worth it IMO. I hope that helps, Good Luck

THM 350 with 9" tail stock is the same length as the 700R4. I did the swap about into my 1988 Full size truck and I just modified the cross member, left the shifter alone ,( no manual low) and ran a toggle switch for TCC and I drove it for four years till I sold it.

Thanks for the replys,I have been told alot of different things such as a short shaft would require the use of a manual trans d-shaft or a 1982 200 4r d-shaft,I have also heard of the swap that Paul Poirier did and I have wondered if the 700r4 for a truck may have a longer tail shaft.I have also been told that my 700r4 d-shaft will line up perfectly with a short shaft th350.Any thoughts?

The truck outputshaft is the same as the Car version. Here is another example. My 1967 chevy 2 had a powerglide, this is the same length as the manual transmissions. the Short THM 350 the THM 200,Thm 200 4R . I installed a 700R4 and used a Camaro driveshaft because it was 2" shorter than the Chevy 2 original.

OH YEAH, i just remembered, you might need to move your crossmember forward. That rubber piece with the bolt that goes through the crossmember was to far to the front of the car when i did mine, and the holes for my Xmember wouldnt line up, so i made new ones, FYI
