Post replacing aod in 86 stang

i bought an 86' gt stang with an aod in may. i blew the trans and replaced it with one i got at junkyard for 300 in mid-june. my throttle valve lever is perminately stuck open amd it never goes into 4th gear. 1-2 and 2-3 changes happen at around 2800 rpm. i believe that this isn't good and my trans is slowly but surely dying. is it possible to replace it with a 3-speed automatic like a c-3 or c-4 with out too much trouble?? what would you reccomend i do???

I would check out your linkage/cable to your tranny and if it checks out ok, I would drop your pan and see what gives. It shouldn't be all that hard to find the problem because it sounds mechanical not hydraulic. Your tranny will not shift to fourth gear if the throttle valve is sensing more than half throttle regardless of vacuum.

A combination of ramps and jackstands are a dangerous combination...if nothing else is available a log or built up 2X4 block is safer. The danger is when you jack the rear axle the fronts can roll off the ramp and onto you, make sure you at least use the ramps on the rear axle and use your parking brake to prevent it rolling when you jack the front end. Remember "ramps out back, parking brake racked".

Don't ask me how I learned this.

Exclamation

Not exactly sure what sparked the ill will here guys. If it was KULTULZ's post, I'm certain it was taken the wrong way. Sometimes it's difficult to see exactly what someone's trying to say when all you have is words on a screen.

Thumbs up

OK...I removed the post. Sorry if I upset anyone.

Now, do you allow profanity to remain posted? I thought this was a friendly site, but I was mistaken.

KULTULZ -- my apologies, that comment was not directed at you. I should have been more clear.

I thought your post was right on track, as usual . From where I was standing, it appeared that jizawiz just misinterpreted it, and replied with some inappropriate language.

If it comes down to it, I'll edit jizawiz's post, but I'd prefer it if he did it himself.
