replacing fuel float on 68 chevelle

Gas gauge is sticking and I think float unit needs to be replaced. I have not replaced before, so would like some advice if u fellas have done before. Do you go though the trunk area to get to the top of the gas tank? Nothing has been opened up there before the trunk still have factory seals. Any help will be great, thank again!

Not that easy. You need to look above the axle. It can be pulled out but it's a pain to get at if you got pipes in the way.
