I would mount the hood first taking off any carb stuff that would interfere with that step. then using the center of the carb as a guide cut a small hole so i could set the scoop exactly where it needs to be (use a long air cleaner stud for a guide) then trace the outline of the new scoop on the new hood to have a line to cut to. patience is your friend doing that task..

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..
