Restoring floorboards

Im restoring my floorboards on my 1964 Impala, after stripping the floorboards down to metal, what type of application should be applied to the metal prior to covering with heat insulation pads? Thanks in advance - Al

any rust coating, POR 15 is the most common, and 1 of the most expensive, but there are others

Don't apply rust encapsulators (POR 15, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator) over bare metal. The paint won't stick to bare metal. I learned this from experience and then from the Eastwood folks. Check out Eastwood for all kinds of rust prevention and metal prep chemicals but all I did was shoot JUST the rusty areas with Rust Encapsulator, then shot the entire floor pan with Chassis Black (any epoxy will do...), then applied seam sealer over all the seams, top and bottom. The floor pan has been rust-free for years.
