Reverse shift pattern

In the past I have always used a forward shift pattern, and just bought a full out race transmission with a reverse shift pattern. The transmission only comes with a reverse valve body, so I didnt have a choice. Why are the reverse patterns so popular, it would seem that a forward pattern would be better for racing as you can go into neutral easy after the 1/4 mile run, and dont have to let the motor stay reved-up as you slow down.

3 speed automatic drag race

Drag race trannys( 3 speed ) with a reverse pattern valve body can be shifted to 2nd gear after passing the traps and the motor will drop to an idle.

Get the car SLOWED down then place the tranny into first gear OR simply step on the loud (gas) pedal to drive in 2nd gear.

Off road trannys usually have engine braking in 2nd gear and you should NOT use them on the drag strip as I describe above .
