In the past I have always used a forward shift pattern, and just bought a full out race transmission with a reverse shift pattern. The transmission only comes with a reverse valve body, so I didnt have a choice. Why are the reverse patterns so popular, it would seem that a forward pattern would be better for racing as you can go into neutral easy after the 1/4 mile run, and dont have to let the motor stay reved-up as you slow down.
One of the reasons reverse patterns are used is. It is sometimes TOO EASY to hit the neutral position. Neutral shift from second at wot 7000+ rpm has a few bad side effects.
