I believe what you want is called "sew foam". Its specially made for upholstery and has a special backing on it so you can sew it to whatever material you're using.

This is sew foam

Thanks for the input but I dont think sew foam is closed cell foam. I need it so I can carve channels into it so I can glue the foam into it.

However I think I will use sew foam to do my tuck and roll and then glue it to my door panel.. I think. Im still learning.

Thanks for the help

the sintra is a foamed pvc sheet, not as strong as reg. pvc but it's lighter and bends easier. easier to cut sand etc, but it's a rigid 'foam'...
it's not the foam you're looking for, if you look for landau foam you'll find what you need.

hope that helps

would that foam be similar to airex foam? The Super Chevy mag is building a camaro and an interior shop used that foam for building out the dash and such to be later covered with fiberglass. They used it because it was rigid enough to be screwed together until the final covering. However I couldn't find that stuff anywhere, online or otherwise so I was looking for a replacement.

Sew foam is softer open cell polyurethane foam with a backer fabric bonded to it that will hold a stitch line. The closed cell foam you are looking for goes by the brand name Volara. It is very firm and is used to sculpt shapes for door panels, etc. CLICK HERE The Sintra or Komatex PVC foam board is rigid and is used for making door panels, etc. The Volara would be glued to the Sintra.

Airex is a type of PVC foamboard. It is generally used in marine construction in greater thicknesses like 1" or more sandwiched between fiberglass layers as a core to create lighter weight structures like hulls.

PVC foamboard is very versatile. It can be cut and shaped with ordinary woodworking tools, it can be heat formed, and can be glued together with gel type super glues.
