Ring Gap

What should the ring gap be for a 77 Monte Carlo 350?

A general rule of thumb is .004" gap for every inch of bore. So a 4" bore would be .016" gap. Unless it is blown or on nitrous, them it is about .006" per inch of bore.

Depends on what pistons you're using, also. Pistons with the top ring closer to the top (KB, for example) need more than the usual gap because the ring runs hotter and expands more from the heat.

It is all up to the manufacturers specs and personal preference. I had a set of rings that recommended a .002 gap and surprisingly enough I only had to file one ring to achieve that number.
