ring and pinion install

Om here is my problem. I am installing used GM 10 bolt 3.42 ring and pinion in my rear end. I am trying to set up the wear pattern. The coast side looks perfect its right in the middle and takes up more than 3/4 of the tooth. Now the drive side is a different story i'm having a really hard time with it, On the tow side of the gear there is a pie shape and on the heal side it looks like the tooth is just barley touching. So it looks like its touching both sides and skipping the middle. My backlash at the moment is .011 of and inch, any help or ideas would be great thanks!

HERE is Richmond's install instructions.

HERE is Yukon Gear's instructions.

Both have tooth wear patterns and remedies. Hope this helps.

Thanks
The Yukon Gears one is great
It said when installing used gears the coast side is the most important and he pays very little attention to the drive side.

I have a good pattern on the coast side so should i put it all together and try it out? and just listen for noise and if there is none it should be good?

let me know what you think.

You could open er back up and recheck the pattern. If the pinion or ring moved, you get to do it all over I guess. If the ring and pinion are in spec. I'd run it.

I have just went through the same thing. I went ahead and took mine to the shop to make sure that it was done correct. I have heard a lot of people say that if you use the factory shims that it will get you really really close matter of fact the shop that I took mine to that is what they done and I have not had a single problem. But please dont take my word to heart!!!!!
I would think any noise would be really scarry? And by the way I have 3:73 gears and not so much as a peep out of them,

Any noise is a bad thing. How hot did it get when you took it for a drive?

Setting up used gears for the coast side just doesn't sound right to me (even though I have never set up gears before). I would think you would want to exactly match the existing wear pattern on the drive side and not worry much about the coast side.
