rlackey back (again)
Hey guys!
So, I'm back again (I know... you're all thinking, yeah right, just like last time ). It's been such a long time since I've even logged on, but I'm glad to see NXS' anti gravity machine is still a hot topic of discussion, it makes me feel like I can't have missed too much. Looks like there are plenty of new names too.I've been keeping in touch with Neophyte outside of HR.com, we are making some plans for the Christmas break to get together and work on our Chevies, so my journal will once again have lots of new entries. It looks like we'll be towing my '54 to his place where I'm swapping my 235 six for some help with welding and pulling the body off the frame. I hope to have the body finished and fully primered before too long, and to clean up the frame and have it painted also. I'm thinking about abandoning the retractable roof, the aluminum floor and the 302, and rather concentrate on getting the car on the road so I can enjoy it. This will still involve the conversion to a 2dr HT and the chopped roof, but I'd build a mild 350 backed by the original 2speed cast iron powerglide and enclosed driveline, just so I can drive it and replace these later. So what happened to me? Well, I moved up to Jo'burg back at the end of August as some of you will remember, and started working hectic 100hr weeks ever since. Things have calmed down now though as I actually quit working for that company and am now freelancing. So, I have time for the car, and for a life outside of work, and hopefully to regularly stop by HR.com! So, now I'm going to get into all of your project journals! I can't wait! It's good to be back (again) Rich

Welcome back, Rich! 100 hour weeks? I thought my job is tough, I averaged 70 hours a week this year. Crazy! Now spend some time on the fun stuff.

Welcome back Rich!
No retractable HT? I was wanting to see it to! Brad |

Yep, I've been a dull boy, but now I have little excuse not to get back into it.
Brad, I'm crying over that retractable HT, I want it so bad. Maybe I should just do it, I'll see how things go when Jaques and I get the car to his place. I like his forward opening front end, that's what I'd be doing at the back, so maybe he's got some things figured out already that will make the work go a bit quicker. The roof sections will need lots of internal framing and bracing and so forth, and I've realised just how heavy it will be. If I build the roof, the car will be a cruiser, not a race car. I was trying too hard to have both in one car and it won't work. Okay, I won't throw out the roof quite yet. I'm sure you aren't the only one curious to see me pull that one off. It's good to be back, I've missed HR.com! Rich |

Hi Rich, good to have you back here.
Yeah, I also can't wait for December to get some paint on my car but there's still a ton of work before then. I've created a task list on MSExcel long ago by which I try and keep. Yesterday I color coded every thing into phases that has to happen before the spray job. Well, hope you enjoy the weekend. Jacques |

Glad to see you back. Been looking for updates to your journal, so it's good to hear you have time for more than just work, too!
That retractable top looked pretty complex to me when you were showing it in the Kustomz thread, but I've never tried anything similar. Getting the car to where you can enjoy it won't necessarily prevent you from carrying out your idea, though. Hope your freelance works out well! |
