Well, if you truly want to see how your car handles, you need to head down HWY C...... Seriously though, where I grew up, we had 1 blacktopped road and it went right through the middle of town. Well, if you want to call roughly 100 people a town. They mostly lived down dirt side roads.

hmnmmmm... lets see... we got an Easy street that has had the sign stolen so many times the city replaced it with an old 7th street sign and used those little reflective letters like you put the number on your boat with to spell easy on it. We got Lake Road 6 for the hill hoppers of the town. Oh, and you can't forget Broadway. Spans all of town, but it is a back road, so i like to use it when i am in a hurry and have set a number of black marks onto and off of it....

Here in port royal not 1/4 mile from the port royal police station they have a speed limit sighn that says 21 1/3mph, not 22, not 21, but 21 1/3, that sighn gets stolen at least twice a month. No frikin clue why its 21 1/3mph, but it is. (Bright people I live around eh?)

We have loops around the city of San Antonio. Loop 410 is by far the busiest but the most deadly is loop 1604 also known as the death loop. Hardly a week goes by without a death on loop 1604. The speed limit is 70 MPH but most drivers take that as only a suggestion.

When you say suggestion do you mean tachometer reference point?
We have a saying around here when talking about different politicians and the ocassional businessman, "He is as crooked as Highway 7 south." |

Gate 17,another 1am-4am drag spot popular from the 60s thru the early 80s.Its a two lane road that runs along the highway on both sides for about 2-3 miles out in front of the GE jet engines plant. from 17 to the bridge was 1/4 mile.Lot of prides was hurt & money lost& won.Every local and not so local street rodder would hang out at the local White Castle restaurant on just about any giving night.any where from 7-8 cars thru the week and weekends 15-25 cars.WE the real locals was like defending our turf always waiting for what we considered outsiders to come in town and challenge one of us.all you had to say is Gate 17 everybody knew.those was the good ole days

Anyone else out there have a Truxtun? Oh, and we just got a Buck Owens Blvd! That's where Buck's Crystal Palace theater is.
Also, anyone out there NOT have a Pine, Oak, Elm, Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, or Madison? [ October 29, 2002: Message edited by: willys36@aol.com ]
|

My daily commute includes a one and a half to two mile stretch of two-lane road called the “Devils Backbone”, it climbs up and across the ridge of a steep range of hills with constant switchbacks and elevation increases / decreases of approximately 100 feet with only a couple of guardrails. The drop offs are probably 500 feet on each side and Fire/Rescue response time is at least 20 minutes to the top if someone sees you go over and hours to pull you out. If you disappear without being seen it could be days, months, or until the highway department mows until you would be found. Although I did see the highway patrol looking at some skid marks once, there are usually fresh skid marks through the grass and bushes, over the side and out of sight at least once a week.

I always laugh when we come back from Alabama every year. In Kentucky there is this HUGE road sign for Big Bone Lick, I believe it is a state park.
Anyways, funny stuff to me at least. Later, Weimer |

We actually have a "Lovers Lane", don't try to make out on it though, it's one of the busiest streets in town. Willys, is that road on the way to Las Vegas, Zzxyx? something like that. Dan

Well, around here, every road has like 3 names. So its Dallas Hwy headed to Marietta, or Marietta Hwy headed to Dallas, or Hwy 120. There's TWO Hwy 92s, you want the one to take you to Acworth or Hwy 41?
You really wanna confuse a yankee point em towards Atlanta and tell em to find Peachtree Street.
