I'm surprised to hear about the M-22 strength and durability issues. I've run several M-21's in my GTO's and a few Chevies on and off the track, but when the LS-6 454 Chevelles showed up from the factory with the M-22 I thought it was near bullet proof...interesting. I kind of liked the noise.

im withyou on that!!! I know they were tough for the power and am also surprised at the hit list on them. The noise was really cool to. But I dont know about holding up to this much torque and horse so I'll probably just save it for a tamer engine in the future!

I worked for one of our local Chevy dealers back in 1970-1971, and a broken Muncie was not what I'd call an unusual sight out back. Stripped gears and broken cases for the most part, but there's no telling what kind of abuse they suffered pre-mortem, though.

I had an M-20 in a 6-cylinder Nova for a while, and the synchronizer keys bit the dust on a regular basis. Never had that problem with a Sag, just lost a tooth on the cluster gear once.
