Rocker arms walking after installing vortec heads? HELP!!

I swapped a comp cam XE-268 in my 79 350 and added a set of new vortec heads from summit racing. After finding a dead lifter (cam lobes still look good) I cant seem to keep the rocker arms from moving off center? I am using a set of stock vortec rocker arms (should be self-aligning right?) and pushrods from the older motor. What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance

Sound like you have the wrong rockers.

The self-aligning rocker has a raised rib on each side of the valve stem contact area to keep it aligned over the valve tip. If yours don't have these ribs, they are not self-aligning.

If you have rail rockers, check for interference where the pushrods come up through the heads.
