I believe it was all 1987 and later SBC's had center bolt valve covers (requiring the self-aligning rockers). Also, the intake bolt angle was changed at the same time.

The heads I have
have slot for the push rods
Not a hole like the Vortec heads
So am I correct in guessing that they don't need self aligning rockers ???????
casting #14102193
and a Date of B-02-1
I am trying to figure out that date code.
I looked it up at <a href="http://www.mortec.com" target="_blank">www.mortec.com</a>
and they say 87-up so is that
February 2nd 1991

Thanks for the help

You won't need the self aligning rockers nor the hardend pushrods either. The slot will take care of the job. One more note, Never run aligning rockers with a slot. It causes binding of the pushrod. A long cam sometimes will cause the binding in that area so watch out and grind there if it's needed.

Just tell your parts person what type heads you have and they should be able to get the right rockers. I've got vortec heads, center bolt valve covers, and use self aligning roller tip rockers. If you don't have a good parts person contact Scoggin Dickey they sell speed parts for a reasonable price.
