Post Rockin and Rollin

While bolting on a new set of roller rockers this afternoon I was checking the clearance of the body and found that there isn't enough at the stud boss. Its seems that my push rod length checker is missing. Does anyone know of any other way to check for proper lenght without one?

Buy a stock one or get a decent one from the junkyard and cut it in two removing a section about 1 inch long, thread inside with whatever size number tap happens to fit closely and use threaded rod and a nut to hold the dimension. Really there is no cheapo way to do it better but a set chopsticks with the ends ground half round and taped together seems to get mentioned whenever I discuss this with friends. Accurate enough for me at 4:00 in the morning before a race. :p
