rod bearing question
 
Im helping a friend with his 327 in a street strip car, saturday he had a weak valve spring and it floated the valve, when it did the piston smacked the valve bending it. Engine is still in car we tore top end down and inspected the piston it just nicked it very little, i think were ok there, so could that have caused any damage on the rod bearing on that cylinder? If socan we pull pan and take cap off and look at it and if its fine put it back on and retorque it. Or is that a major NO NO. The motors three years old and seems still strong with great oil psi till this lil misshap. Thanks John

I'd be more worried about a crack in the piston than I would about the rod bearing.

we have cleaned it all up and inspected best we can, there forged pistons so not sure if that makes much difference, on the rod bearing cap is it safe to remove it for inspections then put it back and retorque to spec or could that cause bearing failure.

If it were mine I'd pull the engine and inspect it. But I'm anal about these things, I don't like known, potential failures gnawing on the back of my mind.

Maybe it's OK, maybe it isn't, I just don't like finding out it isn't with a big bang, a cloud of parts, steam, coolant, and oil.
