yes crank journals are fine, there was nothing in the oil pan, i already threw away the oil filter long before I knew this.. Im pretty sure im going ahead with new bearings anyway to be smart about it , since i got it taken down to have the block decked, I would be better off

Clean your block and crank with soap and water before final assembly. Use wire brushes that reach thru all the passages. The damage to your bearings is from left over crap from the machining process that got flushed thru your oiling system. even if the machinist cleans the block, you should clean it again. Most shops dont do a very good job of cleaning cranks and blocks unless they are assembling it themselves.
You should check that crank clearences with micrometers, not plastigage. |

A score like that is from debris and its always a good idea to plug the oil filter bypass and use a good filter. And make sure the plug under the rear main cap installed.
If you have one of he blocks with the press in plug under the left head on the rear of the block that has to be removed to clean that galley porperly. |

Advise......
Getting ready to get block cleaned etc. Should I let the machine shop install my freeze plugs and galley passage plugs? Sounds like I really shouldn't and instead clean them out again according to u guys, Set me straight so I can do the best for me. Thanks Dana

Some GM block had a press in plug on the rear drivers side near the oil sending unit most shops do not remove that plug and there is no way to clean that oil galley out !!!!
